Say Goodbye to your Razor!

At Last…

Say goodbye to the old-fashioned and outdated torture of hair removal methods once and for all!

Summer is on its way and you know what that means – shorts, bathing suits, tank tops, and flip flops. With days spent at the pool and outside with your loved ones, who has time for old-fashioned shaving with a razor?  Not savvy Beautique Medical Spa clients. They all get Laser Hair Removal. Plus, shaving irritates your skin (you know, South Padre Salt Water and shaving do not mix) and shaving only lasts for a couple days. Oh, and don’t even get me started on those ugly little prickly pimples left behind when you shave. Plucking and waxing may last longer, however, they still can irritate and can be quite painful as well, OUCH!

Laser Hair Removal (LHR) is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the U.S. With current technology, it is also one of the most successful. Although it is a widely used treatment, if you aren’t getting Laser Hair Removal it’s probably because you still have some questions about it. Below is the top 7 most common questions we’ve been asked over the years.  We have all the answers because we have been doing this for a LONG time …. 16 years as a matter of fact!

Q: What is Laser Hair Removal?

A: Laser Hair Removal is the process of treating targeted areas with a highly concentrated beam of light directly into the hair follicles. This process destroys the hair root and disables the follicle from producing hair in the future.

Q: Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

A: LHR is much less painful than waxing or plucking. Depending on the device, there may be some slight discomfort described by patients as a light rubber band snap against the skin. Since we each KNOW Laser Hair Removal at Beautique, and we are kind of babies when it comes to pain, we have three devices we use to remove hair, and NONE of them hurt.  The most we’ve had to use is ice to numb the skin, but most people don’t need anything and report that they felt no pain.  You won’t know until you experience it yourself!

Q: Will Laser Hair Removal work for me?

A: Beautique Medical Spa utilizes high tech and renowned equipment in combination with many years of experience in LHR process. We can change the lasers wavelength, pulse duration, penetration depth, treatment speed and spot size to ensure effectiveness on all skin and hair types.  We actually have a proprietary protocol that can be used to treat grey, white, and red hair…which is unheard of with most Laser Hair Removal clinics.  We are OBSESSED when it comes to being hair free, which is why we researchand scour the globe for tricks of the trade to train our team and ensure that we can help everyone be free from unwanted hair.

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: Did you know that all hair on the body goes through a cycle and each individual hair is in a different cycle at any given time? Cycles run one to three months. For this reason, anywhere from 9-12 treatments, spaced out according to hair growth cycles, are needed to achieve optimal results. Before we get started we have a very thorough consultation where we educate our clients on how hair cycles work on different areas of the body and why we require a certain number of visits strategically scheduled depending on the body part we are concentrating on. One of our pet peeves is that many offices treat helter-skelter, giving Laser Hair Removal a BAD NAME.  Our goal is to get you HAIR FREE and we are committed to reaching that goal safely and effectively.

Q: Will Laser Hair Removal discolor my skin?

A: There has been cases of hyper-pigmentation happening as a side affect post treatment, however, the side effect is preventable, This kind of side effect really only happens when you choose a location that doesn’t understand pigment and hair. If you choose the right place with the right equipment, like Beautique Medical Spa, you won’t have to worry. We won’t treat or accept a client if they are not following the pre and post care rules.  We don’t mess around…. SAFETY FIRST!  Aftercare is very important. As long as the post-care regiment is followed, there should be little to no side effects.

Q: Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

A: Laser Hair Removal significantly reduces future hair growth, especially when done in multiple treatments to cover all the phases of hair growth. When done correctly most people can stop shaving all-together. The right treatment plan, based on skin type and hair type is the key to success.

Q: Is LHR expensive?

A: Laser Hair Removal has been quite expensive in the past. Fortunately, with newer technology the price can be quite affordable. Once you have chosen an office you feel comfortable with, the best option is usually to purchase packages or deals depending on the area(s) you want treated.

Evolution of Beauty: Laser Hair Removal

Cleopatra likely plucked her unwanted hair with shells from the ocean. Clever lady!  Hair removal meant many things in earlier times from cleanliness, wealth or status, to being free of a louse infestation (yeah, gross).  Hair removal by means of plucking, shaving, and even waxing with melted sugar, have been around for centuries and like any other desired beautification tactic, it has been researched and researched some more.

About 50 years ago, the first laser designed to destroy hair follicles was invented. It was unsuccessful and painful. Over the course of the following half century lasers were really altered, tried, and altered some more. The process of laser hair removal became more successful however brought on other issues like damage to the skin and discoloration OR was not effective on certain skin and hair tones at all. Fortunately, science never gave up on our need for eliminating unwanted hair. Eventually technology gave us modern day LHR (laser hair removal) Electrolysis and IPL (intense pulsed light). All skin & hair types can be treated and because of better knowledge on how our hair grows and the cycles, permanent hair removal is achievable and virtually painless.

Our experienced team at Beautique is no stranger to the hair removal process. We utilize the Lumenis Light Sheer System. Our staff has undergone extensive training and is certified by Lumenis. It is important to go to a highly trained professional for these kinds of laser treatments as it is still possible to damage the skin if not used correctly. We also ensure that you understand how to best attack the areas you want to treat. All hair is undergoing a cycle and all hair is in a different phase of the cycle at any given time. You can read more about this process here ~> Why Your Laser Hair Removal Didn’t Work.

If you are ready to get rid of that unwanted hair, it’s time to give our office a call. During a consultation we can explain the entire process and cater to your specific needs. Hair removal is also more affordable than ever especially if you belong to our Hair Free Club! You can find out more information about the Hair Free Club below. Do something for yourself and say goodbye to daily shaving!

Why Your Laser Hair Removal Didn’t Work

Laser Hair Removal (LHR) …a seemingly wondrous gift from the beauty gods to women and men alike who are trying to get rid of stubborn unwanted hair. Well, it can be a gift, if you ensure that it is performed at a reputable place with reputable equipment, by trained professionals. Just like using a cheap styling tool versus a professional grade, what you save in initial cost end up costing you more time and money in the long run to achieve a mediocre result.

To achieve truly permanent hair removal, the laser system must be able to effectively treat different hair types and colors as well as the various skin types while providing maximum skin protection. The laser’s wavelength, pulse duration and spot size determine the effectiveness of the treatment (on all skin types) and also influence the depth of penetration and treatment speed. Most commerical low-end systems can only treat select hair combinations. At Beautique, we use the Lumenis LightSheer System which has revolutionized the medical and sugical industries with its advancements in laser aided treatments. This allows us to treat any hair type, on any skin tone, in any location, at a fraction of the time of traditional laser hair removal methods.

All technitians at Beautique are certified and pass an extensive training program provided by Lumenis. We can ensure that the most effective treatment plan is in place for your unique skin and hair type. You cannot trust just anyone with a laser! If you have had this procedure done before and found that it wasn’t successful, we imagine it was probably very upsetting and frustrating! The good news is that it can be successful and we can help you achieve your hair reduction goals.

So why does LHR require multiple sessions? Why has my hair grown back in the past? These are great and valid questions. It takes an average of 4-6 sessions to see permanent hair loss depending on the area—but it does vary from person to person. Some people see success after a couple of sessions and others need 8 or more in one given area.  It might help to understand the body’s natural hair growth cycles.

There are 3 hair growth cycles.

All of our hair follicles – on our head, face, and body – are in different phases of the cycle. When you come in for LHR, each of your follicles each reacts to the treatment differently depending on where they are in their cycle. This is why multiple treatments are needed to achiece permanent hair loss. With the right sessions, over the course of a plan, you will achieve permanent results. If Laser Hair Removal has been something you’ve been think about, or you have had it done in the past elsewhere without success, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of our technitians. We are ready to answer your questions and discuss your concerns.

Ready to get started? Right now, you can experience the Beautique difference with a great deal on your first session! You can choose from your upper lip, chin, or sideburns for the introductory price of only $29 for your 1st session. Hurry, this offer ends October 15th so don’t wait!

Laser Hair Removal DO’s & DON’Ts

If you’re tired of the bumps, nicks, and cuts associated with shaving, laser hair removal might be right for you. But like any medical procedure, you need to do your homework. It’s more than just “zapping” unwanted hair. As a consumer, you must realize it is still a serious procedure with potentially harmful risks and side effects. Here are the do’s and don’ts:

Laser Do’s

Do Consult a Qualified Physician—Be cautious of non-physicians practicing these procedures in spas and salons. Only physicians and trained technicians should be performing a procedure.

Do Ask Questions—What kind of lasers do they use? What kind of training or experience do they have? Can you speak with one of their clients? If the person performing the procedure can’t answer these simple questions, walk away.

Do Undergo a Skin Test—If you are nervous about how the laser may interact with the skin, ask for a skin test to ensure there will be no adverse side effects.

Do Ensure the Technician Has Experience With Different Skin Types—People of a darker complexion may experience unusual lightening of the skin if an incorrect laser is used at an inappropriate setting.

Laser Don’ts

Don’t Tan Before or After a Procedure—Sun exposure prior to a treatment can interfere with the absorption of laser light and may cause unusual lightening of the skin. Artificial tanning lotions should also be avoided because the perceived darker pigmentation may also interfere with the absorption of the laser on the skin causing unusual burns and bumps.

Don’t Seek Laser Treatments for Blonde or White Hair—Because laser responds to darker pigmented hair follicles, laser treatments are not as effective in treating lighter colored hair. Patients with this type of hair should consider other methods of hair removal.

Don’t Undergo Laser Procedures If You Take Light-Sensitive Medication—Some medications may interfere with laser procedures, making the skin more susceptible to burning and scarring. Consult a physician before undergoing any laser treatment.

Get Rid of Unwanted Hair with Laser Hair Removal

Virtually everyone has suffered from unwanted hair during their lifetime. You’ve probably tweezed, shaved, waxed, and even tried electrolysis to get rid of it. Many are now replacing these “old school” methods with laser hair removal, the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure in the world. It’s a faster, less painful, and more permanent solution to unwanted hair.

The laser hair removal process has been around for many years. It was first developed in the 1960’s, but was not really effective until the 1990’s when it was approved by the FDA. Today millions of people are using laser hair removal to attain smooth, silky skin safely and effectively.

How It Works

Laser hair removal uses an intense pulsating beam of light to remove unwanted hair. The beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, inhibiting future hair growth.

Hair follicles transistion through active and dormant stages. Only active follicles can be treated. Dormant follicles cannot absorb the laser light, so they remain undamaged. Only 30-50% of hair is actively growing at any given time. Multiple sessions are required for every single follicle to be treated.

While laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any skin color and hair type, hair color is the most important factor. The light emitted from the laser is attracted to the melanin, or dark pigment, in the hair follicle. This means that dark hair is treated most effectively. Treatments performed on red, blonde, and gray hair are not generally as effective.

Common treatment areas include legs, underarms, upper lip, chin, and bikini line for women and chest, back, and neck for men. Nearly any area of the body with unwanted hair can be treated.

Laser hair removal doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. Some hair may be resistant to treatment or may grow again after treatment, although new hair growth tends to be finer and lighter in color.

Each treatment removes a progressive percentage of hair until the skin becomes smooth and hair free. Typically 8 to 12 treaments, every 4 to 12 weeks are needed to accomplish permanent results. Several “touch-up” treatments may be needed if new hair growth occurs after the treatments are complete.

Treatment time depends on the treated area’s size and the number of areas being treated during one session. Typically individual areas can be treated in 30 minutes or less. There is no downtime, so treatments can be performed during a lunch break.

There is some pain involved, but most people tolerate it very well. It has been compared to a rubber band snapping against the skin. To alleviate some of the discomfort, a topical numbing cream or ice can be applied. Many people also benefit from taking ibuprofen before treaments.

Risks and Side Effects

The most common side effects of laser hair removal include:

• Skin Irritation—temporary redness and slight swelling are common. More swelling occurs in areas with denser, coarser hair growth.

Pigment Changes—laser hair removal may darken or lighten the affected skin, usually temporarily. Skin lightening primarily affects those who have darker skin.

Allergic Reactions—in very rare cases, an allergic reaction to the heat can occur. Skin may appear red and blotchy and become very itchy. The reaction is temporary and can be treated with topical anti-itch creams and anti-inflammatory medication. Treatments can continue; however, and the reaction should decrease as the hair growth is reduced.

If you have very sensitive skin and are concerned about side effects, a small patch area can be tested. Any reaction will occur within one to three days after the test.

There are certain medical conditions, such as pregnancy, that could affect your treatments. Notify your physician or technician of any pre-existing medical conditions or if your condition changes while you are undergoing treatments. It may be necessary to put your treatments on hold until it is safe to continue.

Laser hair removal isn’t cheap, but if you compare the costs of waxing, shaving, and other hair removal methods, you actually will be saving time and money in the long run. Treatment areas are often sold in packages, which can save money, and Beautique offers further savings with its new Hair Free Club.
