8 Tips for Staying Fresh and Beautiful While Traveling

Whether you’re taking a weekend road trip or flying halfway around the world, travel is stressful and that stress often shows up on our faces. But with a little planning, you can stay beautiful on the go.

1. Moisturize

It’s important to keep your skin hydrated. Traveling often means exposure to different climates that can cause dehydration. Even changes in cabin pressure while flying can dry out your skin.

2. Don’t Forget the Cleanser

Changes in your skin care regimen can reak havoc on your skin. An abrupt change in cleanser can disrupt your skin’s acid balance and cause breakouts. Make sure you pack everything you need. Having to buy product on your trip can be costly. Look for your favorite skin care products in travel size. You can also help minimize breakouts while on vacation by avoiding touching your face. You can pick up any number of bacteria during your journey. Use hand sanitizer before applying makeup to further protect your skin.

3. Hydrate

To refresh makeup while traveling, never glob on more foundation or blush. Instead, use a mister of mineral water or hydration spray. Adding a dab of moisturizer can also help perk up your look. It’s also important to drink water during your trip. Water is important to your skin’s overall health.

4. Go Minimal

Long trips can include sleeping in the car or on a plane. The makeup you so carefully applied before you started your trip can often end up smeared all over your face. Skip foundation on the day of your trip and instead wear only moisturizer. Use a tinted moisturizer for a fresh, healthy look. Apply eye makeup, especially mascara, after you arrive. No one looks good with racoon eyes.

5. Love Your Lips

Protect your lips with a lip treatment while traveling. High heat and air conditioning can cause your lips to feel dehydrated. Avoid using long-lasting lipstick. They can further dehydrate your lips. Instead use a lip stain and gloss. Reapply the gloss during your trip to give your lips a “just-made-up” look.

6. Rejuvenate Tired Eyes

Changes in your sleep schedule and long trips can make your eyes red and puffy. To wake them up, put crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under the eyes. Use eyedrops to lubricate and soothe eyes, especially after napping. If you are sleeping on a plane, apply a rich eye cream around your eyes and wear a sleep mask. You’ll look fresher and more relaxed when you wake up.

7. Add Some Shimmer

Perk up your tired complexion with a soft shimmer powder or cream. Stroke it lightly on the tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, and lips for an instant pick-me-up no matter how tired you feel. You can also use a combination of cream blush and lip balm to add color and moisture without dehydrating skin.

8. Pack the Sunscreen

Always remember to pack the sunscreen. Most skin care products contain SPF, which protects your face, but don’t forget the rest of your skin. Nothing can ruin a vacation like a nasty sunburn. Apply sunscreen liberally and often when your skin is exposed. After exposure apply moisturizer to rehytrate the skin. Apply it after showering as well to lock in moisture before exposing skin to the elements.
