To get that perfect complexion, it’s important to take proactive steps to ensure your skin stays healthy. Before we talk about the solutions to this pesky little problem, we must first understand what causes uneven skin tone.

Clearly A Challenge

Hyperpigmentation is the second highest professional grade skin care concern seen in office. So, if you are plagued by pigment, you are not alone. This is a complex, emotional condition and can be highly difficult to treat. Most damage occurs before age 18 from factors including acne scars, sun damage, and hormonal fluctuation. The melanin cycle can be affected by one or a combination of variable. Before you realize that there may even be an issue. Different skin types and tones are challenged by hyperpigmentation and respond to treatment differently. This requires a unique, multimodal, targeted treatment approach.

Being  in the Rio Grande Valley, treating hyperpigmentation is one of the top three conditions that we help reverse. Which is why we have invested so greatly in curating the best treatments and products to help our unique population. Over the past 20 years, we have become McAllen’s leaders in treating and reversing hyperpigmentation regardless of the type or cause of pigment issues plaguing our clients.

POP Quiz:

Did you know that Hispanics are more prone to experience symptoms of  hyperpigmentation? And it’s typically longer lasting and more challenging to treat in darker than lighter skin tones?

Did you know that melanogenesis is the process that synthesizes melanin? Which is the pigment responsible for the color of human skin, eyes, and hair?

Or that the most common types of hyperpigmentation are as follows: melasma, age spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)?

Lucky for you, at Beautique Medical Spa, we’re experts at treating and reversing hyperpigmentation!

Revealing the Underlying Causes of Uneven Skin Tone

Sun exposure (Public Enemy #1 as we call it) is the most common cause of uneven skin tone. When too much sun hits your skin, it can lead to dark spots and patches. Additionally, lead to wrinkles and other signs of premature aging (not to mention that too much sun exposure can lead to skin cancer).

Melasma is a common skin condition that affects both men and women. However, it is more commonly seen in women and dark-skinned individuals, such as in Hispanics, Asians, and African Americans. This skin condition causes dark pigmented  patches and spots, usually on the face, which are darker than your natural skin tone. There are two main causes of melasma: radiation, whether ultraviolet, visible light, or infrared (heat) light; and hormones.

Too much exposure to ultraviolet and infrared radiation from the sun are key in making melasma worse. That’s why you should never be outside without SPF! The two main hormones that are responsible for causing the uneven skin tone are progesterone and estrogen. And usually pregnancy (we’ve all heard of pregnancy mask), menopause, or taking certain medications such as birth control pills will exacerbate this condition. Last but not least, acne scars and age spots can also cause an irregular skin complexion.

Seven Ways You Can Say Goodbye to Uneven Skin Tone: Our Solutions at Your Fingertips!

Services that help even and correct your skin at Beautique Medical Spa:

1. VI PEEL

The Vi Peel is a chemical peel that helps minimize dark spots and discoloration, as well as soften lines and wrinkles. Vi Peel’s proprietary formulations are safe for all skin types. And full of powerful antioxidants to help prevent future damage from environmental toxins.

It works by removing damaged outer layers of skin. To promote cellular turnover and reveal healthier, brighter skin underneath. Containing ingredients such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA), Retin-A, salicylic acid, phenol, and vitamin C the VI Peel is a safe and effective peel. It will help reduce the appearance of age spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation. In fact, it is the #1 Peel with over 10 Million Peels performed worldwide. The best part is that you can get smooth, brighter, more youthful-looking days in 7 days.

Like most other chemical peels, it is best to have a series of treatments done for the best results. We recommend a peel every 4 – 6 weeks until your desired results have been met. After that, it is simply maintenance.

2. DIAMOND GLOW Treatments with Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Pro-Infusion Serum

DiamondGlow treatments harness the power of the diamond to extract, exfoliate, and infuse the skin. Providing results that other treatments, such as the Hydrafacial, can’t even come close to because this three-in-one treatment with its newly released Pro Serum helps provide smoother, spot-free skin.

The Even & Correct Advanced Brightening Pro-Infusion Serum has replaced the previous Skin Brightening Serum and is taking our industry by storm. Three powerful pigment-fighting ingredients are key to providing phenomenal results. They are LTN Complex, Glycolic Acid, and Phytic Acid.

This serum brightens the skin and helps reduce the appearance of skin hyperpigmentation. Anyone who has hyperpigmentation, dull photodamaged skin, or uneven skin tone needs to incorporate this quick skin-transforming treatment into their schedule PRONTO!

Similar to the original microdermabrasion treatments, the Diamond Glow also exfoliates, but it uses a  diamond tip to create a gentle yet effective scrub lifting away dirt and oils while simultaneously polishing the surface of your skin. The result is a smoother complexion with improved clarity and luminosity – hence why it’s called DiamondGlow!

For best results, we recommend scheduling 1 – 2 treatments a month.

3. MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is an innovative skincare treatment that helps to even skin tone, break down pigmented skin, and reduce wrinkles. The process involves using a tiny needle-studded device to make small punctures in the top layer of the skin. Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) this service creates a controlled wound that stimulates collagen and elastin production to help improve the overall quality of your complexion.

The process of microneedling can also help reduce excess pigmentation due to aging or sun damage by breaking down any built-up melanin within the affected area. When these micro wounds are created, it stimulates our body’s natural healing response which kicks into gear releasing growth factors and cytokines as well as increasing blood circulation which all in turn help even out our complexion. Additionally, results can be further improved with topical treatments such as vitamin C serum applied after each session.

4. FRAXEL LASER SKIN RESURFACING

Fraxel laser skin resurfacing is designed to create a younger-looking appearance in a single treatment without surgery or injections. The treatment improves tone, texture, and radiance for aging, sun-damaged, or scarred skin.

Microscopic laser columns penetrate deep into the dermis layer of the skin to even out skin tone and reduce scars, wrinkles, sun damage, and other skin irregularities. The heat works to encourage collagen production while also breaking down old or damaged cells; resulting in smoother, more toned skin free from discoloration or blemishes.

Best of all, this type of laser resurfacing is customized to individual needs such as treating mild scarring or reducing facial redness due to rosacea. The treatment is ideal for anyone who wants to look younger without severe changes or extended downtime.

Did you know that DiamondGlow treatments are not just for the face? Ahh, the beauty of our skincare industry and its technology. Treat other areas such as your back, arms, neck, and sensitive areas such as around the eyes and lips. More often than not clients look to invasive procedures like lasering. However, this is not necessary with a DiamondGlow treatment. Treat and get the results you want without any downtime or invasive procedure.

And, Beautique Medical Spa is the only practice in the entire McAllen area that offers both hand pieces, one for face and one for body. Remember, Summer bodies are made in the Winter, and a Diamond Glow is just the thing to get rid of those annoying bumps on upper arms, lighten the inner thigh area and underarms, smooth out the back of the thighs as well as your back. And, if you or someone you know struggles with acne and acne scars on their backs, this is the perfect treatment to be able to wear strapless dresses with confidence!

5. Pigment Fade Laser Safe for all skin types!

Pigment fade laser is designed to help break down pigment deep below the surface of the skin without causing any harm to the visible surface. It’s an ideal treatment option for those who suffer from melasma, which is characterized by dark patches on the face or other areas of skin. Pigment fade laser works by using light energy that penetrates deep into the layers of skin beneath the surface, breaking down and fading unwanted pigmentation. The procedure itself is gentle and non-invasive, with minimal discomfort experienced during treatment.

Patients can expect gradual improvement in their melasma over time as treatments progress, with results that are both safe and reliable.
