Stop the Wrinkles with Botox and Dermal Fillers

botox

Botox and Dermal Fillers may appear to be quite similar to the untrained eye, but really, they are very different products. Our aesthetic specialists at Beautique Medical Spa are well experienced in giving our clients a variety of options when it comes to their desired treatment. But, how do you know if you need both? It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Botox is a prescription-strength neurotoxin that can alleviate wrinkles by blocking nerve impulses that cause muscles in the region of the injection site to contract.  Dermal Fillers are used to add volume and fill in deeper facial folds and treat wrinkles.

Choosing the right one can be a daunting task! But, lucky for you, you don’t have to because we’re here to help. The best way to figure out whether you need Botox, Dermal Fillers, or both is to talk with one of our professionals here at Beautique Medical Spa. With their expertise in this area, they’ll go over what makes each product different, what areas they can help treat, as well as provide you with an idea of which one of these products might be the best for you.

Have you been hesitant to try Botox and Dermal Fillers?  Here’s what you need to know about each of two of the most popular anti-aging services available on the planet.

Loss of Volume? Fillers are Your Friend.

What are Dermal Fillers and How Do They Work?

JUVÉDERM® is the #1 Dermal Filler collection in the world that offers 5 different products to meet your specific needs. Add volume to plump lips, smooth lines, or lift & contour cheeks—chances are, one of the syringes from the Juvederm collection has what you need to get the results you want.

We naturally lose hyaluronic acid (HA) as we age over time, leaving the skin less supported, which causes lines and wrinkles to develop. But, by strategically using Dermal Filler, we can help replace the lost hyaluronic acid (HA), lift and smooth targeted folds and wrinkles, restore subtle lift and volume to cheeks, plump and smooth lines of the lips, smooth out smile lines, and even brighten up dark, tired under eyes. These minor adjustments can make a huge, yet natural-looking difference to a person’s appearance, by providing them with a fresher, head-turning look. Each filler type can be used alone or in combination with others to achieve your desired results.

What Results Do Dermal Fillers Provide?

Natural and less obvious when compared to cosmetic surgery, Dermal Fillers can last anywhere from 9-22 months depending on the type of product we’re using. These immediate results will restore your skin’s youthful plumpness and in turn, increase the production of collagen. Nevertheless, these effects will gradually subside in the long term and once the injected Hyaluronic Acid begins to break down, it is time to retreat.

What is Botox and How Does it Work?

Fun fact, did you know that BOTOX® Cosmetic and Beautique share a birthday? Yep, we are both celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year!

Botox cosmetic vial

BOTOX® Cosmetic by Allergan is the ONLY FDA-Approved product to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – helping them look better.

Okay, but how does it work? Think of it this way, like with any muscle, if you stop using it, the muscle weakens and shrinks. Botox helps keep you from using your facial muscles where wrinkles are formed.   Because of the pause in muscle usage, they won’t ‘work out’ each time you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows.

Dr. Sanchez has a great way of explaining how Botox works. “Hold out your hand, you see how the palm of the hand is smooth if it’s stretched out?  Now, close your hand and you’ll start to see the creases in the palm of your hand. Botox will help your forehead, crow’s feet, and glabella look like your hand when it is open and flat. Nice and smooth, but if you keep opening and closing your hand you see the creases. That’s the same as when you make facial expressions, you are giving your muscles a workout which causes wrinkles to form.”

How Much Botox Will I Need?

“My friend Suzy just got Botox and she only needed 18 units, we’re both the same age and that’s how many units I want.” We hear that a lot, and while we appreciate client input, we simply cannot and will not dose based on how many units your friend Suzy got. You see, Botox is an FDA-regulated drug and requires a medical professional to dose this treatment. Would you ever dream of telling your doctor that you only wanted half the dose of your birth control pill or blood pressure medicine because that’s how much your friend Suzy gets? You are unique. Just like there are no two snowflakes that are the same, you and your friend Suzy are not the same. When recommending how many units you need our medical team considers your depth of wrinkles, facial anatomy, compares it to the average dosing that is recommended by the FDA, and create your perfect Botox treatment plan, and we can’t stress the importance of getting regular treatments to prevent these muscles from strengthening, in some cases by not having to start at ground zero each visit, you may even need fewer units during subsequent visits and will get to enjoy the results for longer periods of time.

While there are many neuromodulators available on the market, we find that Botox is predictable and delivers consistent subtle results, allowing you to look like you, just with fewer developed facial lines. It is the result of decades of research and extensive use in medicine that makes Botox the safest, most predictable neuromodulator on the market for use in BOTH the medical and cosmetic fields. Just remember it is a prescribed substance. When choosing a provider you want to make sure that the practice follows state and federal regulations. The practice should have senior-level medical professionals approving doses.

Results You Can Expect After a Botox Treatment

Smooth, wrinkle-free skin! Botox can be used to treat almost any person with facial wrinkles and expression lines. And at Beautique our goal is always to deliver natural-looking results that you are happy with. No matter your personal aesthetic, it’s advisable to use Botox before the wrinkles get too deep and static, meaning that your wrinkles can be noticeable even while you’re in a resting state. If you take too long and the lines become static, you will likely need more units and a combination of Botox and Dermal Fillers to give you the results you want plus prevent even more collagen loss in the areas.

Remember, Botox is used to soften the lines caused by facial expressions and typically lasts about 4-6 months, depending on dosage, the area treated, and how quickly a person metabolizes the product. While Dermal Filler is used to smooth, plump, and restore/provide volume, lasting from 9-22 months. How long it lasts and how often you need Dermal Filler also depends on the treatment area, lifestyle habits such as smoking & sun exposure, and just as with Botox, metabolization also determines when you’ll need to get more Filler. For even better results it is okay to use Botox AND Dermal Fillers in conjunction for longetivity.
