Don’t Let These 5 Myths About Botox Prevent You From Owning Your Look This Year

Wrinkles…where did they come from? There is NO way they were there yesterday when you looked in the mirror. If you’re like most people, as you get a little older you will start to see little wrinkles that may bother you. We’ve all heard that those little lines are a right of passage, memories of events in our lives, rites of passage we should embrace….um…okay. I’m all for embracing the aging process and being grateful daily for another day of life, but I will NOT roll over and give in. Our team of experts will help you fight it every step of the way.

Now, I’m not saying that I want to look like a 22-year-old when I’m in my fifties, but I do want to look refreshed, and youthful. We are an anti-aging clinic, which means the majority of our clients choose us to help correct signs of aging and help eliminate those pesky lines and wrinkles.  Almost always we will recommend Botox Cosmetic to achieve immediate results, after all it is the #1 cosmetic procedure in the world!

Everyone has heard about Botox but are confused what it is, what it is used for, or think that the jokes in movies and/or internet are true. Many are concerned about the possible “frozen” look that can result from the unwanted effects of this service. However, this like many concerns are some of the most common fears and myths have been exaggerated by the public. Keep reading as Dr. Manuel Sanchez addresses some of the top Botox myths.

MYTH #1: BOTOX IS TOXIC AND UNSAFE. Botox is completely safe for cosmetic use. In 2002 the FDA-approved Botox as an anti-aging treatment and is one of the most widely administered drugs on the market today. This is also the year that Beautique Medical Spa opened and 16 years later we’re a Platinum Plus Partner with Allergan, the makers of Botox. This misconception that Botox is toxic and unsafe is largely due to the fact that Botox derives from botulinum toxin, most commonly associated with food poisoning but the amounts are nowhere near toxic levels.

MYTH #2: WRINKLES WILL WORSEN IF YOU STOP GETTING BOTOX. Botox isn’t a permanent solution to wrinkles, so as the effects of Botox generally fade away you will start to regain facial movement in the muscles before injections. Gradually, the fine lines and wrinkles will eventually start to return if you stop treatment, but if you’re like our clients you’ll most likely never want to stop getting Botox, but if for some reason you chose to stop there won’t be any permanent damage.

MYTH #3: BOTOX INJECTIONS ARE PAINFUL. Botox injections are no more painful than getting a regular shot at a doctor’s office, in fact even less because the needles are smaller, and the solution doesn’t cause any pain. There may be a mild discomfort, but the needles are very tiny thin needle, roughly the size of an eyelash, and most patients experience little to no discomfort. If you are particularly scared of needles, or have a very low pain tolerance, we have special tips up our sleeves to make sure that your visit is 100% enjoyable!

MYTH #4: BOTOX WILL MAKE ME LOOK “FROZEN”. When injected by a skilled professional, Botox should never make you look emotionless. The right amount of Botox won’t cause your face to look tight, or frozen, but instead, your skin will appear softer and wrinkle free. At Beautique our team of experts a Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse in addition to Dr. Sanchez.

MYTH #5: A FACIAL CREAM AND/OR SERUM CAN DO THE SAME THING. No skin cream, or serum on the market today can actually relax the muscles in your skin., no matter how expensive it is or what the claims are, onlyBotox can do that. However, there are creams and/or serums that when used properly work together with Botox to enhance and prolong your results. One of our absolute favorite products is Cellular-Matrix Serum by Nelly de Vuyst. In fact, the entire Cellular-Matrix series is formulated to help prevent and reduce the appearance of expression lines. Ideal to use daily to prolong the effect of botulinum injection (Botox). Want to know more about Cellular-Matrix ask one of our Beautique specialists for their favorite recommendations.

There you have it, Five Common Myths that we have DEBUNKED. If you are ready to Own Your Look and are considering Botox, watch this video to find out a Bonus Myth we debunk. Remember, getting older… is inevitable.  Looking old 100% preventable.

Botox Maintenance Guide

BOTOX® is the only approved treatment on the market to temporarily improve the signs of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines. Reducing, the appearance of wrinkles that cause these unwanted and unnecessary lines, Botox works beneath the skin’s surface and targeting underlying muscle activity to reduce signs of aging. So why are so many people still confused by the benefits in using this product?

Botox is a great alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures. Why? Because it’s quick, painless, and seldom causes side effects. You get real, noticeable results when using Botox. It can take up to 14 days to settle, but you may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours depending on the severity of your wrinkles. The best part, most results last up to 4 months!

Botox works great on everyone! It has been proven safe for most people, especially those who wish to eliminate dynamic wrinkles. Botox works best on younger patients, and is recommended for people between the ages of 18 and 70.

So what are the basic DO’S & DON’TS when it comes to getting Botox?

DO: Choose the right doctor. If you pick an injector who’s inexperienced at administering Botox Cosmetic, your Botox results aren’t going to last as long as they should

DO: Avoid the sun. You’ll want to avoid sun exposure on the day of your Botox treatment. Why? Because sun exposure boosts blood circulation, causing blood vessels to dilate, potentially shortening your  Botox results  faster than normal. So, make sure to wear a sunscreen with an SPF 30+

✓ DO: Exercise your muscles. A few days after treatment. Go ahead and make weird faces, consult with your doctor but it’s recommended to do post exercises to help the Botox to settle

DO: Get Botox treatments regularly. If you have Botox sessions at regular intervals, then your muscles will become weaker over time. This means that Botox’s effects will last longer

DON’T: Take any kind of aspirin and/or anti-inflammatory. These include: products that contain aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E – doing so could significantly increase the chance of bruising following treatment, because these medicines are considered to be blood thinners

✘ DON’T: Drink alcohol. Avoid alcohol the day before and the day of treatment to help minimize any bruising

✘ DON’T: Massage or manipulate the area that was injected IMMEDIATELY after treatment.  This is crucial in allowing your Botox to settle and do it’s proper work and give you the best results.

It’s no wonder why over 11 million people get Botox on a daily basis. Botox works wonders. So what are you waiting for? Schedule your appointment today and take advantage of Beautique’s March Mania Botox event going on March 27th-29th!  Click the link below to find out more!

5 Myths About Botox

Used for over 10 years, BOTOX®  is a popular treatment for people who want to improve the look and appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet, revealing a more youthful appearance. You may have heard a lot of great things about Botox but with those great things, there can be a lot of misinformation.

Many people want to correct signs of aging and wrinkling with cosmetic Botox but are concerned about the possible “frozen” look. However, this like many concerns, are some of the most common fears and myths that have been exaggerated on the internet. Dr. Sanchez addresses some of the top concerns his patients have expressed, which will help keep your mind at ease when choosing Botox as the alternative.

Myth #1:

Botox is Toxic and Unsafe:

Botox is completely safe for cosmetic use. It has been FDA-approved as an anti-aging treatment and is one of the most widely administered drugs on the market today. The misconception that Botox is toxic and unsafe is largely due to the fact that Botox is derived from botulinum toxin, however, low dosages of this protein have been proven safe and effective for both medicinal uses as well as cosmetic.

 Myth #2:

Wrinkles Will Worsen if you Stop Getting Botox:

Botox isn’t a permanent solution to wrinkles, so as the effects of Botox generally fade away you will start to regain facial movement in the muscles before your next treatment. Gradually, the fine lines and wrinkles will start to return if you stop treatment altogether, so it’s possible you may never want to stop. However, if you choose to do so there wouldn’t  be any permanent damage. In fact the reduced movement of the treated muscled prevents future wrinkles from forming.

Myth #3:

Botox Injections are Painful:

Botox injections are no more painful than getting a regular shot at a doctor’s office. There may be a mild discomfort, but Dr. Sanchez wants to keep his clients as comfortable and pain free as possible. The needles are very thin for accuracy, and most patients experience little to no discomfort. Numbing cream is is also used and after care instructions are provided.

Myth #4:

Botox Will Make Me look “Frozen”:

When injected by a skilled professional, Botox should never make you look frozen or emotionless. The right amount of Botox will not cause your face to look tight,, but instead, your skin will appear softer and more wrinkle free.

Myth #5:

A Facial Cream and/or Serum Can Do the Same Thing:

No skin cream, or serum on the market today can actually relax the muscles in your skin. Only Botox can do that. Creams and serums can only penetrate through a certain level of the skin’s dermis, however, when used together with Botox certain creams and/or serums can enhance your results making your Botox last a bit longer.

For example, Nelly Devuyst’s Cellular-Matrix Serum helps to reduce and prevent the appearance of expression lines. Containing a mixture of marine elastin and collagen, this serum moisturizes and also helps to soften superficial wrinkles, an ideal serum to incorporate daily to help prolong the effect of Botox. 5 Mitos Sobre Botox

Mito # 4:

Botox Me hará Parecer “Congelado”:

Evolution of Beauty: Face Lift Alternatives

The surgical face lift has been around for over a century. Can you believe that? Experimenting began in 1901 and the procedures were performed mainly on actresses and people of high aristocracy. They were also done in secret – especially into the 1920s as this type of procedure was considered taboo and a waste of resources. Now, of course with advances in technology within the medical world, they are safer and more commonly performed.  A surgical face lift is no longer taboo and in fact is a very acceptable way to look years younger.  However – as with any surgical procedure, there are risks and drawbacks. Going under anesthesia, recovery/healing time, and cost. Those are fairly big factors if you are the busy modern woman.

Check out this fun article – classic movie stars set the standard!

Fortunately, there are alternatives to going “going under the knife”
  • Botox Cosmetic – yes, most humans on this planet have heard of Botox. Botox is a great way to soften those lines and wrinkle while preventing them from appearing or getting worse. Check out our recent blog on the history of Botox Cosmetic – see link below
  • Dermal Fillers – fillers are not just for pouty lips! They can be used to fill in lines and wrinkles as well as add volume to other areas of the face. We will be going into depth on dermal fillers in an up-coming blog. Stay tuned! Do you get our emails? Stay up-to-date on our blogs – see link below
  • LED Light Therapy – these treatments are great at stimulating your skins natural ability to produce collagen and rejuvenate itself.
  • Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy  –  PRP is the process of injecting platelet-rich plasma derived from your own blood to promote new tissue and collagen growth. Read up more about it below!
  • Laser RF Therapy – 3DEEP uses radio frequencies to stimulate blood flow and break down fat deposits. It promotes healthy new cells to surface and tightens skin. See link for more info.
  • Thread Lifts – here at Beautique they are known as the BeautiLift and are the holy grail of options for an alternative to traditional face lifts. Carefully designed threads made of polydioxanone threads that are strategically injected deep below the skin to lift, tighten, stimulate collagen and achieve the effects of a full face lift.

We are super excited about BeautiLift and are offering some amazing deals right now.

In addition to what is listed above, taking good care of your skin in the first place is important! The tried and true steps include a vitamin rich diet, plenty of hydration, consistent use of SPF, and a good skin care regimen. Preventative measures go a long way. We also recommend a consultation;  many procedures can be combined to achieve desired results. 50 is starting to look a lot like 20!

Evolution of Beauty: Botox

Most of us know that Botox is the same toxin that causes Botulism. Sounds scary, right? However, we also know that Botox has been used for years safely and effectively. So, how did an awful illness become something that treats other health problems as well as gets rid of lines and wrinkles? That’s quite a leap when you think about it. Let’s explore the history.

In the early 1800s consumption of tainted sausages led to a serious illness causing paralysis (Botulism). Seriously, bad sausage! Smoked sausage to be exact.  A physician at the time decided to experiment on himself and animals by consuming the bad sausage. Why on earth would willingly eat bad sausage? In the name of science of course!  The physician concluded that the toxin found in the tainted meat may be able to be used therapeutically due to its ability to interrupt signals between the muscles and brain.  Later in the century, a professor of bacteriology was able study and purify the toxin for medicinal use. The onabotulinum toxin A was used to treat lazy or crossed eyes and a plastic surgeon in the 1990s discovered that it could be used to manipulate facial muscles for the benefit of beauty! This is most definitely an interesting use of toxic substances

Here we are now, a few decades later. A ton of research, a ton of trials, and many satisfied patients. The non-surgical solution to eliminating frown lines, smile lines, worry lines, and crows-feet.  Botox Cosmetic blocks the transmission between nerves and muscles which in turn reduces the muscle movement that causes the above-mentioned issues. Many facilities offer Botox Cosmetic but it is important to have the procedure performed by an experienced professional.

Beautique Medical Spa was a pioneer in the use of Botox when it was first FDA approved in the early 2000’s. We have experienced it all and are trained to administer the right amount to the right areas for the optimum results. If anyone knows the ins and outs of Botox Cosmetic, it is Beautique!

We invite you to visit our website www.beautiquemedicalspa.com and to reach out to us for any questions you may have.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox has gotten a lot of press, both positive and negative. So let’s talk about that. Botox is often associated with botulism, or food poisoning, but that’s not really correct.

Botox is a highly purified protein that is derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, which causes food poisoning. To contract food poisoning, the actual botulism has to be directly introduced into the body.

With Botox Cosmetic, no bacteria are introduced into the body. Instead, the purified protein of the bacteria is introduced in very, very low doses. We realize this sounds a bit technical, but it’s an important distinction.

So we’ll repeat it: No toxin is introduced into your body. Instead, a purified protein of the bacteria is injected. Very big difference.

Botox is the most commonly used non-invasive cosmetic procedure performed. Literally, millions of injections have been given in its 25-year history, and not one single reported death.

Of course, there are risks with any drug, but Botox’s safety record even beats that of aspirin. And there are few, if any, side effects.

Your biggest concern with Botox injections should be the experience of the practitioner. This single handedly determines how natural you look!

We cannot stress how important the practitioners’ experience is. You may see many promotions for “Cheap and discounted Botox”, all we can say is “Buyer Beware.” There’s probably a reason for those deep discounts and you should really find out before letting someone inject your face. At Beautique we have been performing Botox since 2002 which means we have injected thousands of Botox injections.  In fact, in 2011 we introduced our Botox Club which made it easy for our clients to get their Botox as well as many other favorite services that helps our clients look and feel their best.  When it comes to your face and body you deserve the very best!

Seven Common Misconceptions About Botox

There are many misconceptions about what Botox is and what it can do. Beautique Medical Spa, home to the Botox experts, sets the record straight about some of the most common:

#1: You could look worse if you stop treatments.

If you stop Botox treatments, you will NOT look worse. The worst case scenario is that you will return to your pre-Botox look. There is no record of any patients having a “rebound” effect after stopping Botox. Some patients even report a long-lasting softening of their lines months after stopping their Botox. Patients typically get three to four months from one injection of Botox. With repeated use, they might only need it six to nine months later. This is especially true if the earlier re-treatments are done as soon as the muscle is just starting to move. The analogy is as seen when keeping a cast on a broken arm—the muscles soften when not being used.

#2: Botox is a potent poison, and you shouldn’t put poison in your body.

Botox is a very potent medication and can do considerable damage if injected into the wrong place in the wrong amount. This does NOT make it dangerous to use however, especially when administered by an experienced doctor. When injected correctly, there have been no instances of side effects beyond the injection site. The key to its correct use is to have an experienced doctor. You should choose the most experienced doctor you can find.

#3: Botox makes you look plastic or unnatural.

Botox is a wonderful treatment, but some people do take things to the extreme. Some movie stars look plastic not because they use Botox, but because they use way too much Botox in too many places. If Botox is used tastefully, it will give you a relaxed look. The key is to know when to stop to avoid paralyzing the essential muscles required for proper facial expression. This is where your physician’s judgment comes into play. He should be able to decide on the correct dosage and injection location to give you a natural, relaxed look.

#4: Botox treatments are easy, so anyone can give them.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. It takes considerable experience and knowledge of facial anatomy to know exactly where to inject Botox. Each person is unique, and treatments should be customized for your individual needs. Administering Botox is as much an art as it is a science.

#5: Botox is addictive.

For a drug to be addictive, it must have a systemic effect. Botox does not affect your body as a whole and does not affect the nervous system beyond the injection site. However, you might become addicted to the improved, relaxed appearance it will give you!

#6: Botox can cause a permanent eyelid droop.

Botox rarely causes a complication called ptosis or eyelid droop. I have never seen this complication, and it is, for the most part, an avoidable complication with proper technique. The effects of Botox are all temporary; therefore if you were unfortunate enough to get this complication, it will not be permanent. If this rare complication does occur, it can easily be treated with special eye drops which reverse the problem.

Many people feel guilty when contemplating cosmetic procedures. Botox is unique because it does not actually change your appearance; it simply returns your look to the way it was before stress and aging added lines to your face. It’s never wrong to want to return to your natural, stress free, relaxed self!
