Introducing miraDry, the only permanent non-surgical solution that reduces sweat in your underarms, giving you the freedom to enjoy all your favorite summer activities without worrying about unsightly sweat patches or embarrassing body odor. Here’s what you need to know about this miracle treatment. And how it can give you the confidence to rock that cute sundress without worrying about pit stains.

Do you have hyperhidrosis?

Do you dread getting ready for work because you know you’re going to sweat through your clothes?

Does the thought of putting on the bridesmaid dress make you shudder?

Do you have to change clothes more often than normal throughout the day?

If you sweat profusely from hands, feet, and underarms chances are you have hyperhidrosis…. That’s a fancy way of saying excessive sweating. We’re not talking about feeling sticky and sweaty because we live in the Rio Grande Valley. We’re talking about sweating so much that sweat stains are visible on your clothes, even in the winter. Or slipping out of your shoes because your feet are so sweaty. Or dread knowing that every time you shake someone’s hand, you’re going to see them try not to react to your sweaty, clammy hand so you won’t feel bad. THAT kind of sweating.

Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) is a real doozy, but here’s the silver lining: you’re alone. A whopping 7.8 million people share your pain and embarrassment in the United States alone. Out of those 7.8 million people, about 4 million suffer from axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating).

Hyperhidrosis is when your nervous system automatically affects your sweat glands as your body temperature rises. Sweating also occurs naturally on hands and feet and increases intensity with nerves.

How can you treat excessive underarm sweat?

Traditionally the most common ways to treat excessive sweating have been with prescription drugs, wipes, prescription deodorants, surgery, and Botox. That’s right until recently Botox was really the most effective non-surgical option in treating hyperhidrosis. While very effective, it has a couple of cons; it can be painful because it requires a lot of injections, and the biggest con is that it is temporary, which makes it expensive because you have to repeat the treatment every 9-12 months

Fortunately, in 2011, miraDry was FDA-cleared to permanently treat axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis, which means that we can now permanently eliminate sweat, odor, and hair in the underarms…without surgery!

We know that miraDry can be life-changing! How do we know that? Because we’ve performed many treatments including our own team members. But don’t just take our word for it, watch the following videos about how miraDry has given our clients peace of mind, freed them from embarrassment, and has restored their confidence.

In some instances, clients have been able to apply for and get promotions, raise their hands without fear, appear on camera without embarrassing sweat stains on their shirts, and they’re saving a ton of money on dry cleaning bills and can not purchase delicate fabrics without worrying about pit stains.

Today we want to focus on underarm hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). As you may know, Dr. Sanchez is very strategic about which services and technologies to introduce to his patient base. They have to solve concerns that are unique to the demographic in the Rio Grande Valley. Because we live in such a hot environment, naturally most people think that if they have excessive sweating of the underarms they need to “just grin and bear it”, thankfully they don’t have to anymore.

You see, living in a hot climate is not what causes hyperhidrosis. People who sweat profusely have an overactive nervous system and can’t really control the sweating. That is why he loved miraDry. Being able to restore his patients’ confidence in being able to wear what they want, when they want, was very exciting for him.

So, is miraDry worth it?

According to the national website Real Self, 81% of patients who have had the procedure say it’s “worth it”. In fact, in our own office, Marisol, our Guest Relations Manager, has done it and LOVES the results.

What is miraDry and how does it work?

miraDry is a non-surgical, FDA-cleared treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to painlessly reduce the number of underarm sweat and odor glands by permanently eliminating excess sweat and odor. The ultimate hyperhidrosis treatment you have been looking for.

It’s an easy treatment that can be completed in a physician’s office in as little as an hour and works by delivering precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the underarm area, heating and subsequently eliminating the underarm sweat glands and smell.

As soon as we explain how a miraDry treatment works, the most common question we get is, “Don’t you need to sweat to release toxins?” The belief that sweating is necessary to release toxins from the body is a common misconception. While sweating does play a role in regulating body temperature and eliminating some waste products, it is not the primary method of toxin removal. The kidneys and liver are the main organs responsible for detoxification in the body.

Toxins and waste products are primarily eliminated through urine and stool. The kidneys filter waste from the blood, which is excreted as urine. The liver processes and detoxifies substances before eliminating them through bile, which eventually reaches the intestines and is excreted as stool.

Sweating, on the other hand, primarily helps regulate body temperature by cooling the body down when it gets too hot. It also helps to a lesser extent in the excretion of small amounts of certain substances like urea and ammonia.

We have anywhere from two-four million sweat glands found in our bodies, yet only 2% of those sweat glands are located in the underarms which means that your body will still sweat to cool your body down miraDry targets and eliminates sweat glands in the underarms, which can provide lasting reduction in excessive sweating and odor. It does not interfere with the body’s natural detoxification processes or hinder the elimination of toxins from the body. It will, however, provide you with a sweet sweat free summer!

Bye-Bye, Deodorant Stains: Why I Opted for miraDry

Who is a candidate for miraDry?

An ideal candidate is someone who experiences excessive underarm sweating and desires a long-term to manage their condition.  Excessive sweating disrupts daily living and affects the choices in activity and clothes worn. miraDry is suitable for both men and women who find that excessive sweating interferes with their daily activities, affects their self-confidence, or causes discomfort and embarrassment. This treatment could be right for you if you have ever found yourself avoiding a social event or activity because you are embarrassed by your sweat and odor.

It is important to note that miraDry is not recommended for individuals with secondary hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating caused by an underlying medical condition or medication. In such cases, addressing the underlying cause is typically the primary focus of treatment.

Additionally, candidates for miraDry should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the results of the treatment. It is important to discuss your medical history, including any previous treatments or surgeries, with a qualified healthcare professional to ensure miraDry is a suitable option for you.

It’s believed that  at least 4.8% of people experiencing excessive sweating have never seen a doctor or have been formally diagnosed with Hyperhidrosis. This means that you don’t need to come to us with a formal diagnosis from a primary physician.  At Beautique, we always start with a Get to Know You Consultation. During this time we’ll ask you to explain your concerns in detail and determine if miraDry is the best option for you. Typically we  perform a starch iodine test which allows our miraDry expert to see your sweat level and determine whether or not you should invest in this procedure.

miraDry can be a transformative solution for those who struggle with excessive underarm sweating and wish to reduce their reliance on antiperspirants or other temporary remedies. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for miraDry, it is recommended to consult with a qualified healthcare professional or dermatologist who can assess your individual situation and provide personalized advice.

What is the miraDry process?

The miraDry process involves the following steps to reduce underarm sweat and odor. Here is a general overview of the miraDry procedure:

1. Consultation: The process begins with a consultation with our Stop Sweat Experts. During this consultation, your medical history will be assessed, and you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, expectations, and eligibility for the treatment.

2. Preparation: On the day of the treatment, you will be taken to a treatment room. Your underarms will be cleaned and marked to identify the targeted areas for the miraDry procedure.

3. Numbing: Local anesthesia will be applied to your underarms to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment. The anesthesia helps to minimize any potential pain or discomfort.

4. miraDry Procedure: Once the area is numbed, the miraDry handheld device will be placed on your underarms. The device delivers controlled microwave energy to the sweat glands and heats them up. This process selectively eliminates the sweat glands while keeping the surrounding tissues safe. Most patients say they feel the suction, but no pain during treatment. There is also a cooling function during the entire process which makes the treatment tolerable.

5. Cooling: The miraDry device includes a cooling mechanism to protect the skin’s surface and ensure your comfort during the treatment.

6. Treatment Duration: The miraDry procedure typically takes about one to two hours to complete, although the exact duration may vary based on individual factors.

7. Post-Treatment Care: After the procedure, you may experience temporary swelling, bruising, or discomfort in the treated area. At Beautique we provide instructions on post-treatment care, which may include applying ice packs, taking over-the-counter pain relievers, and avoiding certain activities for a few days. After the treatment, there really isn’t downtime. The one big “no-no” is no intense exercising or heavy lifting or running for at least a week after your treatment.

8. Results and Recovery: Over time, you will notice a significant reduction in underarm sweat and odor. Most individuals achieve their desired results after one or two miraDry sessions, although the number of treatments required may vary based on individual factors. Recovery time is generally minimal, and you can usually resume normal activities within a few days.

How much does miraDry Cost and How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Our miraDry expert will let you know whether or not to invest in this procedure after your consultation. We say that because it is an investment. The national average for one treatment is about $2998-$3999, so it is pricey, but it is the only FDA-Cleared technology available on the market today and Beautique Medical Spa is the only practice in the Upper Valley offering this treatment, in fact, we’ve had clients from Laredo choose our practice for their miraDry treatment Remember, miraDry is cleared to:

 1. Permanently eliminate sweat by 82%

 2. Eliminate the odor that comes from sweat

 3. Permanently remove underarm hair by about 72%.

Choosing between miraDry and Botox as a treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) depends on individual preferences and needs. Here are a few reasons why one might prefer miraDry over Botox:

 1. Lasting Results: miraDry provides long-lasting results by targeting and eliminating sweat glands in the underarms. The treatment typically offers a permanent reduction in sweat and odor, allowing individuals to enjoy the benefits without the need for frequent maintenance treatments. On the other hand, Botox injections temporarily block nerve signals to sweat glands, requiring repeated treatments every few months to maintain the effects.

2. Non-Invasive: miraDry is a non-invasive procedure that does not involve injections or surgical incisions. It uses controlled microwave energy to selectively eliminate sweat glands while protecting the surrounding tissues. Botox, on the other hand, requires injections of the neurotoxin into multiple points in the underarm area.

3. Treatment Area: miraDry specifically targets the underarm sweat glands, making it a focused solution for underarm hyperhidrosis. Botox injections can be used in various areas of the body, but they may be less effective for larger treatment areas.

4. Convenience: With miraDry, most individuals achieve their desired results after two treatment sessions. The treatments are spaced apart, allowing for quicker achievement of desired outcomes. Botox injections require multiple sessions, with recurring appointments every few months to maintain the effects.

Ultimately, the choice between miraDry and Botox for hyperhidrosis treatment depends on individual factors such as treatment goals, desired duration of results, treatment preferences, and the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.

miraDry is effective in over 90% of treated patients, and while insurance does not cover miraDry, our practice offers and accepts all major credit cards, as well as, Care Credit and Cherry Payment Plans as an affordable option for this and all our services offered.

Will there be any symptoms after my treatment?

In general, miraDry is extremely safe. The most common side effects are that your underarms will be swollen and sore. You may experience numbing and tingling sensations. These issues aren’t typically serious, but it is a medical procedure so there is always a risk of complications.

It is important to get this procedure done by certified miraDry technicians in a medical facility for this reason. We are one of two locations that offer miraDry, but the only certified medical practice and have performed over 50 treatments in the past months since we introduced this treatment to our practice including members of our team and they love their results!

Considering miraDry as a solution for excessive underarm sweating offers numerous compelling reasons. miraDry provides a lasting reduction in sweat and odor by targeting and eliminating the sweat glands in the underarms. Unlike other temporary treatments like Botox, miraDry offers long-term results, freeing individuals from the need for frequent maintenance sessions.
