Lights, Camera, IPL

Do you battle with breakouts, hyperpigmentation fine lines and/or wrinkles? Do you want smoother, more even skin tone, but fear going under the knife? Then an IPL Photofacial might be for you! This innovative Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as the “photofacial” you help you say goodbye to the effects of sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and more in a few easy and painless treatments!  The photofacial uses intense pulses of light that penetrate deep below the dermis to even out imperfections such as freckles, broken blood vessels and birthmarks. Photorejuvenation has been in practive since the 1990’s and is still among the most effective treatments that men and women of all ages can undergo to rejuvenate the skin.

WHAT IS AN IPL:

IPL uses an intense pulse of light to penetrate the second layer of the skin, the dermis, targeting bacteria (helpful for acne) and pigmentation (helpful for dark spots, scarring, etc), without harming the top layer. The light is absorbed by the melanin–damaging only that specific lesion. The body then naturally removes the damaged tissue (aka your dark spots) leaving behind smoother, even skin tone. This treatment is ideal for people with large pores, blotchy or discolored skin, and especially for those on-the-go who don’t have time for a lengthy recovery.
IPL devices use multiple wavelengths of light to treat:

  • Sun-induced changes on the face, including brown pigmentation and age spots
  • Rosacea, including redness and broken blood vessels.
  • Acne

IPL can also treat the hands, chest and neck to diminish age spots or any other areas suffering from discoloration or broken blood vessels. Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara, underwent multiple treatments prior to her wedding to correct years of unprotected sun exposure. While you may experience a little bit of redness or darkening in the treated area immediately following your visit, this will diminish within a few days to a week.  After a targeted brown spot removal, there may be light flaking, which can be easily managed with moisturizer and a dab of concealer.

IPL FACIAL BENEFITS:

Unlike many laser techniques, the procedure is non ablative, meaning no skin is removed during treatment so recovery time is minimal. An IPL Photofacial is one of the safest light-based facial treatments available, and most patients experience little or no pain during the procedure. Depending on the level of correction needed, multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results. An incredible added benefit to the IPL is that while the treatment corrects leasions, it also stimulates new collagen, and over several treatments, this new collagen smooths and softens the appearance of wrinkles, pores and textural irregularities resulting in smoother, healthier skin. Many clients incorporate IPL Photofacials into their regular beauty routine for it’s corrective and enhancing properties.

IS AN IPL THE OPTION FOR YOU:

Not everyone is a candidate for an IPL Photofacial. Some darker skin types are not suitable as they have too much melanin to treat safely. We cannot treat you if you’re taking medication that makes you sensitive to light, such as Accutane. The best way for you to find out if IPL is right for you is to book a consultation with one of our experienced Beautique estheticians. They will assess your skin, listen to your concerns and explain the best way to achieve your goals. If you are not a candidate for IPL, we have a variety of alternative treatments available.
