Don’t Let These 5 Myths About Botox Prevent You From Owning Your Look This Year

Wrinkles…where did they come from? There is NO way they were there yesterday when you looked in the mirror. If you’re like most people, as you get a little older you will start to see little wrinkles that may bother you. We’ve all heard that those little lines are a right of passage, memories of events in our lives, rites of passage we should embrace….um…okay. I’m all for embracing the aging process and being grateful daily for another day of life, but I will NOT roll over and give in. Our team of experts will help you fight it every step of the way.

Now, I’m not saying that I want to look like a 22-year-old when I’m in my fifties, but I do want to look refreshed, and youthful. We are an anti-aging clinic, which means the majority of our clients choose us to help correct signs of aging and help eliminate those pesky lines and wrinkles.  Almost always we will recommend Botox Cosmetic to achieve immediate results, after all it is the #1 cosmetic procedure in the world!

Everyone has heard about Botox but are confused what it is, what it is used for, or think that the jokes in movies and/or internet are true. Many are concerned about the possible “frozen” look that can result from the unwanted effects of this service. However, this like many concerns are some of the most common fears and myths have been exaggerated by the public. Keep reading as Dr. Manuel Sanchez addresses some of the top Botox myths.

MYTH #1: BOTOX IS TOXIC AND UNSAFE. Botox is completely safe for cosmetic use. In 2002 the FDA-approved Botox as an anti-aging treatment and is one of the most widely administered drugs on the market today. This is also the year that Beautique Medical Spa opened and 16 years later we’re a Platinum Plus Partner with Allergan, the makers of Botox. This misconception that Botox is toxic and unsafe is largely due to the fact that Botox derives from botulinum toxin, most commonly associated with food poisoning but the amounts are nowhere near toxic levels.

MYTH #2: WRINKLES WILL WORSEN IF YOU STOP GETTING BOTOX. Botox isn’t a permanent solution to wrinkles, so as the effects of Botox generally fade away you will start to regain facial movement in the muscles before injections. Gradually, the fine lines and wrinkles will eventually start to return if you stop treatment, but if you’re like our clients you’ll most likely never want to stop getting Botox, but if for some reason you chose to stop there won’t be any permanent damage.

MYTH #3: BOTOX INJECTIONS ARE PAINFUL. Botox injections are no more painful than getting a regular shot at a doctor’s office, in fact even less because the needles are smaller, and the solution doesn’t cause any pain. There may be a mild discomfort, but the needles are very tiny thin needle, roughly the size of an eyelash, and most patients experience little to no discomfort. If you are particularly scared of needles, or have a very low pain tolerance, we have special tips up our sleeves to make sure that your visit is 100% enjoyable!

MYTH #4: BOTOX WILL MAKE ME LOOK “FROZEN”. When injected by a skilled professional, Botox should never make you look emotionless. The right amount of Botox won’t cause your face to look tight, or frozen, but instead, your skin will appear softer and wrinkle free. At Beautique our team of experts a Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse in addition to Dr. Sanchez.

MYTH #5: A FACIAL CREAM AND/OR SERUM CAN DO THE SAME THING. No skin cream, or serum on the market today can actually relax the muscles in your skin., no matter how expensive it is or what the claims are, onlyBotox can do that. However, there are creams and/or serums that when used properly work together with Botox to enhance and prolong your results. One of our absolute favorite products is Cellular-Matrix Serum by Nelly de Vuyst. In fact, the entire Cellular-Matrix series is formulated to help prevent and reduce the appearance of expression lines. Ideal to use daily to prolong the effect of botulinum injection (Botox). Want to know more about Cellular-Matrix ask one of our Beautique specialists for their favorite recommendations.

How Often are Botox Treatments REALLY Needed?

It’s no secret. We LOVE Botox, and as leaders in this service, we get a LOT of questions.

The most common questions we hear are:

  • Why should I get Botox? Aren’t I too young?
  • Do I have to get it frequently? If so, how often?
  • What happens if I stop? Will I get more wrinkles?

To help clear things up, we asked our nurse injector, Adriana Sanchez, to answer these questions. Of course, you will need to consult a professional for the number of Botox units you will need, price and pre- and post-treatment instructions.

At what age should I get Botox?

Most people start thinking about getting Botox in their late 30s or early 40s. While Botox can be administered at any age, it is most effective when clients start in their 20s or early 30s. There are several reasons for this, but the main reason is expressiveness. Botox targets the facial muscles to relax. If done properly, you will still have your facial expressions. When you start noticing that wrinkles remain on your face when it’s “at rest” (no expression), it’s a good time to start Botox. When this happens will vary from person to person. Just keep in mind that the longer you wait to start getting treatments, the longer it will take for the wrinkles to fade. It will also take more units to get your desired results.

How often do I need to get Botox and why?

Ideally, you should get Botox treatment every 3 to 4 months. Most people get it every 3 months. Some can get away with treatments every 3 ½ or 4 months, but those people tend to be in their 20s. After 3 months, your body has metabolized the Botox that was injected to relax the facial muscles.

You might hear of people waiting 5 months or longer between treatments. This typically means they are waiting for the wrinkles to return before getting another treatment. This not the best method of treating wrinkles. Facial muscles can gain strength so it will take more Botox to treat the wrinkles, which will end up costing you more as well.

When a person is consistent about getting Botox every 3 months, they prevent the facial muscles from regaining strength and prominent appearance. Again, as mentioned before, if administered correctly, you will still have facial expression and movement. You just won’t have the lines and wrinkles when your face is at rest. Plus, the number of units required at each treatment will remain the same with regular treatments. Research shows that people who are consistent with their treatments will often use fewer units per session than when they started.

What happens if I stop getting Botox?

If you stop Botox treatments, the treated wrinkles will return. If you hear your wrinkles will get worse, don’t believe it. That’s just a myth. It might appear to be the case because your face has looked so good while getting Botox, you forget what you looked like before. This is why we take before pictures.

Botox is a lot like diet and exercise. You eat right and work out to lose weight. If you stop, you will most likely regain the weight. Botox gets rid of the wrinkles. Stop and they will come back. Consistency is the key to your success.

If you decide to get Botox, shop around to find a practitioner you feel comfortable with. Get referrals from trusted friends. Make sure you talk to the injectors and the rest of the staff. Ask them if they get Botox and how long they have been getting treatments. Most importantly, don’t shop around on price. You are worth so much more than a Groupon.

If you have any questions regarding Botox, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here to help you.

How To Take Control Of Your Aging Skin

Lines, wrinkles, sagging…they are all telltale signs of the passing of time. And there isn’t a single man or woman on the planet who likes it!

Aging affects how you feel about yourself and definitely how you look. But with Thermage, you have a say in the way aging affects your skin. That’s because Thermage uses a unique form of radio frequency to kick start your body’s own natural renewal process.

Unlike laser, which requires 10 or more treatments, a single treatment of Thermage is all you need. It warms the underlying layers of the skin, drawing collagen up to the skin’s surface, causing it to tighten. As the collagen moves to the surface, new strands have to grow to take its place in the dermal layer.

The result?

  • Eyes look more youthful and rested.
  • Turkey neck, loose jowls and sagging skin are all smoothed.
  • Your jaw line is sculpted and contoured.
  • Under your chin is firmed.
  • Pronounced forehead wrinkles soften dramatically.

Yes, you’ll see and feel a difference immediately, but the beauty of Thermage is that it keeps working for up to 6 months! That means you’ll see differences every day as your body continues to regenerate collagen, thickening and smoothing your skin.

The latest Thermage technology adds a gentle vibration sensation with interspersed cooling bursts for even more comfort during treatment. So you can get the lift and firmness you want without the down time or the pain.

Because the results build over time, friends and family won’t know that you’ve had Thermage. They will just know that you look younger and more confident!

To support the on going results with Thermage, it’s important to have a strong skincare program. Get regular facials! Or set up a SilkPeel or LED therapy treatment to further enhance your results.

Don’t wait on Mother Nature to do you any favors because she won’t. Take control of the signs of aging. Keep the face you love.

With over 1,000,000 treatments performed, a single 45-minute session can literally change how you see yourself!

Want to learn more? Reserve a consultation during our Thermage event on July 21, 2016 and receive special pricing and free gifts!  Click here to learn more.

How to Tell if You Have Dry or Dehydrated Skin

Do you know how to tell if your skin is Dry or Dehydrated?  Many people don’t know how to tell the difference and as a result end up using the wrong product or getting services that may actually do more harm than good.

Fact: Many skin problems are consequences of the wrong choice of skin care products with relation to the misdiagnosis of the skin condition…

Tightness, discomfort and itching … The symptoms of dry and dehydrated skin can be very similar. Thus, many people having dehydrated skin believe they have dry skin and will opt for greasier products thinking their symptoms will be relieved … But often, the skin problems will worsen and new symptoms may appear.

How to determine if you have dry or dehydrated skin? Take the test right now!

If you notice that at a certain time of the day you are getting a shine on the nose, forehead or chin: you have a dehydrated skin!

Dehydrated skin lacks water but is still able to produce sebum. Dehydrated skin has a lack of molecules that capture and hold water on the skin surface and inside the skin cells. Seeing that the skin should protect us, it automatically compensates for this lack of molecules holding water by producing more sebum. It is for this reason that dehydrated skin can feel and show symptoms of dry skin (tightness, discomfort etc.) as well as the symptoms of oily skin (shiny areas, pustules, blackheads etc.). The appearance of large pores and accumulated dead cells can be seen on certain areas.

WHAT TO DO? The goal is not to add more oil, but instead, compensate for this lack of molecules holding water. Dehydrated skin needs to restore this water level from the deep and superficial layers of the skin and from within the cells.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD BE USED? You want to choose products that contain hyaluronic acid. Some of our favorite products are Nelly Du Vuyst® Hydrocell Plus Cream is composed of hyaluronic acid and Fucogel; two hydrocaptors that retain and prevent water evaporation. The Matrixyl Synthe’6 found in the Nelly DuVuyst® Hydrocell Plus Cream stimulates, up to 174%, the natural production of hyaluronic acid to gently restore the water reserves in the dermis. The Matrixyl Synthe’6 also promotes a good circulation of water from the deeper layers to the superficial layers of the skin.

Tip: Do not forget to drink water! Without water, you will never restore the hydration of your skin!

Dry skin, also referred to as “alipidic skin” is a skin that is missing oily compounds (lipids). The sebaceous glands of dry skin do not produce enough sebum. The water is no longer retained and evaporates, hence, causing a dryness of the skin.

Due to the fact that the follicles are not dilated, the pores appear visually smaller. The skin appears rough and dull looking. This lack of glow is caused by opaque dead cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin that do not reflect light. Due to this dehydration, the appearance of wrinkles on the skin are intensified.

WHAT TO DO? Exfoliate! The goal is to eliminate the dead cells that accumulated on the surface with products and services. We love Nelly De Vuyst® 3 Minute Gommage and our DNA HyroLipid Scrub. After exfoliation it is necessary to compensate for this lack of sebum by applying oily compounds (lipid) that will restore the skin’s protective barrier and maintain the proper skin hydration using water captor compounds.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD BE USED? You want products that are rich in lipids and fatty acids such as Nelly Du Vuyst® Dry Skin Cream Containing Natural Moisturizing Factors this product helps rebuild the protective lipidic barrier of the skin preventing water evaporation. It restructures the lipid cement between cells and restores the water reserves in the skin. The skin appears softer, smoother and generally more comfortable. The wrinkles caused dehydration disappear. Take it One Step further by adding Nelly Du Vuyst® Cellular Matrix Oil for greater lipidic richness and for extra comfort.

Ideal services we recommend are Microdermabrasion, Silk Peels, and our Age Defying Facial that combines mechanical and physical exfoliation to help prepare your skin for these products.  By taking care of your skin at home you will be able to enjoy a balanced skin which in turn will provide you with an amazing glow.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox has gotten a lot of press, both positive and negative. So let’s talk about that. Botox is often associated with botulism, or food poisoning, but that’s not really correct.

Botox is a highly purified protein that is derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, which causes food poisoning. To contract food poisoning, the actual botulism has to be directly introduced into the body.

With Botox Cosmetic, no bacteria are introduced into the body. Instead, the purified protein of the bacteria is introduced in very, very low doses. We realize this sounds a bit technical, but it’s an important distinction.

So we’ll repeat it: No toxin is introduced into your body. Instead, a purified protein of the bacteria is injected. Very big difference.

Botox is the most commonly used non-invasive cosmetic procedure performed. Literally, millions of injections have been given in its 25-year history, and not one single reported death.

Of course, there are risks with any drug, but Botox’s safety record even beats that of aspirin. And there are few, if any, side effects.

Your biggest concern with Botox injections should be the experience of the practitioner. This single handedly determines how natural you look!

We cannot stress how important the practitioners’ experience is. You may see many promotions for “Cheap and discounted Botox”, all we can say is “Buyer Beware.” There’s probably a reason for those deep discounts and you should really find out before letting someone inject your face. At Beautique we have been performing Botox since 2002 which means we have injected thousands of Botox injections.  In fact, in 2011 we introduced our Botox Club which made it easy for our clients to get their Botox as well as many other favorite services that helps our clients look and feel their best.  When it comes to your face and body you deserve the very best!

July’s Happenings At Beautique

Summer is now in full swing. And we got one thing on our minds….Weekends! This month is dedicated to getting you weekend ready every Monday. We have a couple of fun opportunities to have what we like to call “Reju-vacations”.

Why Not Have This Cocktail?
We love microdermabrasion as do thousands of people around the world. Extremely safe, this age-defying treatment is convenient, non-invasive and gets remarkable results in as little as one treatment.

However, there are some conditions that microdermabrasion cannot treat such as broken blood vessels, spider veins, acne, and rosacea. It simply wasn’t designed to.

But here’s the really interesting part. Even though microdermabrasion can’t treat those skin conditions, it amplifies the ability of other treatments to do so!

For example, LED Light Therapy and chemical peels work more efficiently. The reason is simple. Exfoliating and vacuuming away dirt, debris, dead skin, clogged pores, and the like, allows complimentary treatments such as LED and Peels to do their job more easily, giving you the results you want.
Problem conditions like broken blood vessels, spider veins and rosacea respond in record time. Leaving you with amazing results!

Taking Microdermabrasion to the Next Level with LED and Peels
LED Light Therapy is a painless method of rejuvenation with red light therapy, blue light therapy and infrared light therapy to effectively re-energize aging and damaged skin by stimulating the cellular renewal response from deep within the tissue to repair and renew tired damaged cells and stimulate the rejuvenation process that takes place to achieve and maintain beautiful, healthy skin.

The same is true for chemical peels. Essentially, you’re getting a double exfoliation. The first, with microdermabrasion, suctions away surface imperfections. It also works to stimulate the lymphatic flow, carrying away toxic waste.

Secondly, the chemical peel exfoliates deeper layers for radiant, firmer skin. The two treatments accelerate action, giving you the results you want more quickly.

This month we have created the perfect Cocktail with our Maui Micro with LED. The Maui Micro Facial combines microdermabrasion with soothing fruits and flowers to achieve the best anti-aging results.

We wish you a very Happy 4th of July! Enjoy time with your loved ones and stay sun-safe.

To Your Beauty,
Beautique Medical Spa

Most Women Don’t Like This Padding. How About You?

Padding on a chair or sofa? Great! Padding under your chin or on your neck? Not so much.
Women everywhere hate that padding. And it’s no wonder. Laxity, or sagging skin, impacts how a woman feels about her attractiveness.
Well, if you’re not willing to go under the knife to correct the problem, we say, hooray! There’s a much better alternative. Dramatically tighten and firm that skin without pain or downtime.

In fact, we’ll go so far as to say, you may even enjoy it! Why? With 3Deep radio frequency, the skin is heated deep in the dermis area. That’s important because all change begins there. By heating the dermis, we stimulate your body to produce newer collagen, and that significantly tightens, firms, and tones your skin while visibly reducing wrinkles.

3Deep restores firmness and healthy plumpness to your skin. All without pain, excessive heat or side effects.

Most clients tell us that their sessions feel like a typical hot shower or hot stone massage. Safe and highly effective, your sessions are targeted and controlled giving you the results you want where you want them.
To find out if 3Deep is for you we recommend that you schedule a consultation. During your consultation, a skin expert will analyze your skin and recommend a treatment course. Everyone’s skin is different, but the typical course is 3-6 sessions.

Most clients see a reduction in skin looseness after the first session. What’s more, after your treatment course is completed, 3Deep keeps working for up to 6 months.
Ready to lose that unwanted padding and skin looseness? Find out how 3Deep will help eliminate that extra, unwanted padding.

Seven Common Misconceptions About Botox

There are many misconceptions about what Botox is and what it can do. Beautique Medical Spa, home to the Botox experts, sets the record straight about some of the most common:

#1: You could look worse if you stop treatments.

If you stop Botox treatments, you will NOT look worse. The worst case scenario is that you will return to your pre-Botox look. There is no record of any patients having a “rebound” effect after stopping Botox. Some patients even report a long-lasting softening of their lines months after stopping their Botox. Patients typically get three to four months from one injection of Botox. With repeated use, they might only need it six to nine months later. This is especially true if the earlier re-treatments are done as soon as the muscle is just starting to move. The analogy is as seen when keeping a cast on a broken arm—the muscles soften when not being used.

#2: Botox is a potent poison, and you shouldn’t put poison in your body.

Botox is a very potent medication and can do considerable damage if injected into the wrong place in the wrong amount. This does NOT make it dangerous to use however, especially when administered by an experienced doctor. When injected correctly, there have been no instances of side effects beyond the injection site. The key to its correct use is to have an experienced doctor. You should choose the most experienced doctor you can find.

#3: Botox makes you look plastic or unnatural.

Botox is a wonderful treatment, but some people do take things to the extreme. Some movie stars look plastic not because they use Botox, but because they use way too much Botox in too many places. If Botox is used tastefully, it will give you a relaxed look. The key is to know when to stop to avoid paralyzing the essential muscles required for proper facial expression. This is where your physician’s judgment comes into play. He should be able to decide on the correct dosage and injection location to give you a natural, relaxed look.

#4: Botox treatments are easy, so anyone can give them.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. It takes considerable experience and knowledge of facial anatomy to know exactly where to inject Botox. Each person is unique, and treatments should be customized for your individual needs. Administering Botox is as much an art as it is a science.

#5: Botox is addictive.

For a drug to be addictive, it must have a systemic effect. Botox does not affect your body as a whole and does not affect the nervous system beyond the injection site. However, you might become addicted to the improved, relaxed appearance it will give you!

#6: Botox can cause a permanent eyelid droop.

Botox rarely causes a complication called ptosis or eyelid droop. I have never seen this complication, and it is, for the most part, an avoidable complication with proper technique. The effects of Botox are all temporary; therefore if you were unfortunate enough to get this complication, it will not be permanent. If this rare complication does occur, it can easily be treated with special eye drops which reverse the problem.

#7: Changing your appearance is wrong.

Many people feel guilty when contemplating cosmetic procedures. Botox is unique because it does not actually change your appearance; it simply returns your look to the way it was before stress and aging added lines to your face. It’s never wrong to want to return to your natural, stress free, relaxed self!

There’s Only One Botox

What would it mean to you if you were wrinkle and line FREE? How great would it feel to actually look as young as you feel? It’s possible with Botox, the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment in the United States. Other treatments make that claim, but results prove it isn’t true. There’s only one Botox. No other cream, serum, or treatment can provide the same results.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox causes the muscles to “relax,” so they no longer contract and cause lines and wrinkles. Botox also blocks nerve impulses to the tiny facial muscles directly related to expression lines. After treatment, the skin overlying the treated area becomes smooth and unwrinkled. The untreated muscles contract as usual and leave normal facial expressions unaffected.

What Can I Have Treated with Botox?

Most patients think of crow’s feet lines when they contemplate having Botox because they are the most common facial lines and form early in life. But did you know that there are many other wonderful uses of Botox?

Here’s a list of problem areas that can be treated quickly and easily with a simple injection of Botox: ~Frown Lines—the vertical lines in the area between the eyebrows called the Glabella.
~Forehead Lines—lines that run across the forehead parallel to the eyebrows.
~Lip Lines—lines around the outer edge of the lips that cause lipstick to “bleed” outside the lip line.
~Neck Bands—prominent bands going from the jaw line down to the base of the neck making the neck look older.
~Eyebrow Lift—Yes! A non-surgical, natural-looking eyebrow lift is possible with Botox.

If you’re ready to discover the proven results more than 11 million women and men have experienced with Botox, call our experts at (956) 664-1234 to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation.
